The incredible relationship between sleep and brain health! Healthy sleep is a very important component of preventing Alzheimer’s.

Study found a protein in the brain that helps regulate the body’s inflammatory response — a known contributor to Alzheimer’s. Decreased levels have “exacerbated cognitive problems associated with the disease” and restoring the levels reversed the effects.

Basically what I’ve been preaching all along. But Perlmutter points something out that begs the question, why are researchers/Big Pharma so focused on finding a cure instead of finding a prevention. Could it be they know the prevention necessary is simply a healthy lifestyle including eliminating sugar/grains and they don’t want Americans to adopt that?? Could it be they’d much rather make billions on the next wonder drug that comes with a plethora of awful side effects that require additional drugs??

This was actually published back in April but I find it very interesting and promising. As with all new scientific breakthroughs I tend to be very skeptical, with the words “unintended consequences” coming to mind. I also first and foremost maintain that Alzheimer’s will only truly be defeated — including the ability to “turn off” the Alzheimer’s gene — by the individual, not by some miracle drug or therapy alone. But with that said, with a bit more research, this could have some real potential! To see my research and thoughts on ApoE4, visit my posts here and here.

The decision to use hormone therapy during perimenopause and menopause is very controversial to this day. I say listen to what your body is telling you and remember that the hormonal fluctuations and decreases associated with menopause are a natural process and therefore are not a problem to be fixed. Stay tuned for future posts on hormones and Alzheimer’s prevention.
